Wright will continue to build on his experience at Luna Labs, ironSource and Kwalee in order to make Kwalee the preferred publisher for mobile game developers.
Kwalee is a UK-based and global publisher and developer of mobile, PC, and console games. We are thrilled to announce John Wright’s appointment as the new Vice President of Mobile Publishing. John Wright will join the Kwalee team at the beginning of October. He will be responsible for revamping the studio’s strategy in order to sign, launch, and scale games from external studios.
Wright, a 15-year veteran of the mobile industry and ardent gamer, quickly rose through the ranks at ironSource’s app distribution and monetisation platform. He relocated from London to their HQ in Israel, during a crucial phase in his career growth. Wright returned to the UK and joined mobile app marketing outfit Luna Labs in the role of VP Operations. Luna Labs experienced rapid and significant growth under his leadership. Wright returned to his old company when ironSource acquired Luna Labs and became the Head of Operations at Luna. Wright’s career path changed after ironSource merged with Unity. He became the Head of Client Success at the Luna division.
Kwalee’s mobile publishing team has a track record of success, and is supported by a large studio in-house. They help developers scale their games with marketing, monetisation, and game design knowledge. John Wright joined Kwalee after the company reached 1 billion downloads by 2023, and won Best Publisher at the TIGA and Mobile Game Awards in 2022).
As he begins his new role, his strategic priorities are to improve the efficiency of the publisher in order to better serve the global mobile game makers community, and to promote Kwalee as being the best choice for UK developers.
John worked as a director for ironSource’s newly formed “unified team”, a group that was well-known in the industry. He collaborated with players like Ketchapp Rollic, and Homa. As an early innovator, he helped them achieve exponential expansion, recognizing the value of combining strategies such as monetisation and mediation with user acquisition activities. John Wright is a successful mobile game developer who has launched over 100 games worldwide and managed over $1 billion of client spending.
John has a wealth of experience in leading remote teams, including large multi-disciplinary teams, as well as joining startups at an early stage, growing them rapidly, and playing pivotal roles. John is known for his ability inject life into businesses. He will now use his developer-side expertise to drive Kwalee’s growth.
David Darling is the founder and CEO at Kwalee. He said, “John and me have an excellent relationship, we work closely together and first met 10 years ago when TENS was launched. It’s obvious that his achievements and trajectory, particularly with Luna Labs, make him the perfect fit for us. We are eager to benefit from his vast experience in order to enhance our developer relationships and publishing abilities.”
John Wright expressed his excitement about the new position, saying, “Having worked as a Kwalee partner for many years and admired their innovative work, I am thrilled to be moving across the table.” It’s clear that the post-IDFA landscape is challenging, and small- to medium-sized companies need an ally who can help them reach multi-million-dollar success. At Kwalee I will be a champion for developers. “Our relationship will be symbiotic and based on mutual understanding of their needs both as clients and partners.”
John will lead Kwalee Mobile Publishing to its most profitable and prosperous era ever by embracing the rich British developer community, while also focusing on global expansion.
