A former jockey pronounced dead after a fall six seconds later in 2013 is now training with high-profile owners
Star Sports has become the new sponsor for Brian Toomey’s yard in Buckinghamshire.
The 34-year old, who retired as a jockey in 2013 after an almost fatal fall in Perth, is now in his first season as a horse trainer at Bowstridge Farm, Chalfont St Giles.
Since he was granted his trainer’s licence in October, he’s already attracted some prominent owners including Amo Racing and Clipper Logistics. He also has Jimmy Fyffe, Jeff Smith, and Clipper Logistics as clients. Harry Redknapp gave him his first win when Wake Up Harry was a winner at Kempton, on the 20 th of December.
Toomey will join Harry Skelton, a leading jockey and the recently retired legend Davy Russell as Star Sports’ racing ambassadors. He will give regular updates on his yard’s horses, share his opinions on the most important races and meetings of the Flat Season, and provide video content that looks back on his career as an jockey, recovery from his fall, and life as a trainer.
Toomey said, “Becoming an instructor has been my dream for many years.” . “My story is unusual and I realize how fortunate I am to be in this position.
“I am extremely grateful to the owners of Bowstridge Farm, who are a great place to train, and to Star Sports, my new sponsor.
I’m excited to share my experience as a new coach and update Star Sports customers on our athletes, as well my thoughts on major races and industry issues.
Luke Tarr is the Head of Public Relations at Star Sports. He said that Brian’s story was inspirational. We are proud to sponsor his yard.
We’re thrilled to work with Brian as he begins what we know will be an incredibly successful career in training.
