On February 6, major earthquakes in Turkey and Syria caused widespread destruction to thousands of people. FBM(r) Foundation donated 16 000 dollars last week to UNICEF (charity organizations specialized in humanitarian aid operations) to help those who are in greatest need.
Charity organizations are still coping with the aftermath of the natural disasters that struck northern Syria and southern Turkey two weeks ago. FBM (r), Foundation was not able to ignore this complicated situation and quickly responded with meaningful donations.
The importance of rapid humanitarian response
In the early hours of February 6th, the Turkey-Syria border suffered the impact of a 7.8 magnitude-earthquake, followed by another nearly as damaging. While thousands lost their lives, many more were injured or forced from their homes. This was one of the worst natural disasters that the country has ever faced.
FBM (r), Foundation donated 11000 dollars to UNICEF. Each 55-dollar donation equaled one emergency kit for the most vulnerable.
This social gesture was further strengthened by the attribution 5.000 USD to AKUT, which were later used for distribution of food, clean water, and other essential healthcare products.
Vitor Francisco, Director at FBM (r), Foundation, discusses how economic support can be crucial in emergencies. ” Making quick decisions and implementing them quickly is key to the success and survival of relief operations. Financial support is one example of how we can have a significant impact on someone’s life in a very short time.
The first step to quick recovery in difficult situations
The United Nations states that the incident took place as Syria’s humanitarian crisis reached its peak since the conflict started. This made it more difficult for these people to rely on humanitarian aid in a region already at risk.
In addition to the tragic loss of life and the immense grief, many families were left homeless by the earthquakes that struck these areas.
Monetary assistance is essential to address this crisis and provide effective and efficient relief operations. FBM (r), Foundation did not hesitate to support these initiatives by providing financial support that could be immediately used on the ground.
This solidarity action was initiated to assist in the recovery of those who were affected by this unplanned event as well as the reconstruction and rebuilding the affected areas.
