The European Gaming and Betting Association announced record-breaking outcomes from its fourth annual European Safer Gambling Week held between 18-24 November. The social media campaign, events and other initiatives included in the initiative demonstrated a growing commitment by the European gambling sector to safer gaming through increased participation and geographic reach.
The campaign was a record-breaker with 195 active partners participating, a 20% rise from 2023. Eight national gambling authorities took part, which is more than twice as many as the previous year. They either joined the social media campaign, or spoke at various events.
The campaign reached 26 countries, a significant increase of 30% from 2023. Partners in Croatia, Serbia and Ukraine joined for the first-time, reflecting its growing pan-European nature. Social media graphics were made available in 27 different languages, which helped to make the campaign more pan-European.
The social media campaign generated 1169 posts on social media, a 67% rise from the previous year.
The campaign’s comprehensive events program, which included 20 specialized events – an increase of 11% from 2023 – was a cornerstone this year. These events saw record attendance with 4500 participants and 3000 registrations. Discussions focused on trends in AI, reporting problem gambling prevalence and innovations in safer tools and messages. 105 speakers were present, including senior gambling authority representatives from Belgium, Denmark France and UK.
This initiative builds on the commitment of EGBA’s members to safer gambling throughout the year. In 2023, 67,000,000 safety messages will be sent to European customers. This week aims to increase the impact of these efforts and encourage greater collaboration among operators, regulators, and harm prevention organizations.
The success of the event this year reflects a deepening commitment by the industry to player protection. The increased participation of health organisations and regulatory agencies, in particular, shows the growing unity and common purpose in our approach towards safer gambling. We have reached an unprecedented number of Europeans through this collaboration with important safety messages. Together, we make gambling safer, and we look forward to building upon this success next year,” said Maarten Hajer, Secretary-General of EGBA.
