Dr. Robert H. Xiao attended the 2023 Global Esports Conference in Shanghai on July 28, and delivered a speech. He said that the acceptance by mainstream global sporting events of esports marks a new beginning, which will have long-term benefits and influence on the development of China’s E-Sports industry.
The Hangzhou Asian Games scheduled for this September have attracted significant attention both from the domestic and international community, and are playing a crucial role in promoting E-Sports culture and encouraging people to take part in it.

Dr. Xiao outlined the three main trends for the future of the eSports industry by taking advantage of this opportunity provided by the Asian Games. These are standardisation of competitions, industrialisation of sports, and market popularity.
E-sports is a digital industry that combines technology, competitions, entertainment, and social interaction. The Asian Games set a blueprint for globalising China’s esports industry, while also presenting new challenges to its quality and sustainable growth.
Dr. Xiao outlined four areas that China’s esports should focus on to address these challenges in the future. Incorporating digital technologies, such as AR/VR or AIGC, into events to improve the user experience. Second, promoting global cultural integration. Third, encouraging global cooperation in order to synergise partners around the world. Fourth, cultivating e-sports talent with a global outlook through deep collaborations.
Perfect World will continue to promote the development of high-quality core events. It will also strengthen the ecological construction of the eSports industry, leverage the influence of the leading eSports IPs, explore innovative consumer business models for eSports, and emphasize the importance of global integration.
