- HRH Prince Faisal succeeds Vlad Marinescu as President with immediate effect
- The IESF will select the official candidate following a vote during the next General Assembly
Marinescu’s decision to step down is a result of the changing demands of the global eSports Community. He believes that an increased level of commitment is needed, and has firmly assigned this responsibility to HRH Prince Faisal who was recently appointed as Acting President.
Marinescu stated, “I think what we need right now is a complete unity of eSports on the international stage. This will lead to the recognition by the Olympic Movement and closer relationships with publishers.” “I think that HRH Prince Faisal is the best person to lead us towards this unity.” Marinescu said.
“He is someone I respect and admire, who breathes and bleeds the eSports. In Saudi Arabia, he has shown what a national association can accomplish. He is highly respected and holds positions of high authority in the Global Esports Federation. “He is a good friend in whom I put my trust to carry out this next heavy task, and to promote and further develop the IESF.”
HRH Prince Faisal stated, “I feel honored to be given this important position within the IESF. I look forward to continuing to the work that was driven under Vlad’s incredible leadership in the last few years.”
“I am excited by the possibilities to take eSports even higher. The IESF, with a focus on governance, strategy and growth, will continue to organize exceptional tournaments and event, uniting world’s top eSports athletes, and fostering a fair and inclusive competition environment in order to support and drive forward our industry.
Working with Vlad was a real pleasure. Without his influence, ideas and impact on the IESF’s current position, it would not be as successful. “I echo my colleagues and friends in the IESF who wish him all the best for his future.”
HRH Prince Faisal, in addition to his interim presidency of the Global Esports Federation, will also retain his role as Vice President. He also brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the eSports sector from his previous roles. Since their founding in 2017, he has been the leader of both the Saudi Esports Federation and the Arab Esports Federation, combining these roles with the IESF Vice-President.
