On Wednesday 8 February, the Esports Arena at ICE London will host the premier of Ironclad. This short documentary style film was produced by ESG Gaming.
Filmed on location in Dundee and Salford, the film examines the impact of tech inequality on the space. It is viewed through the eyes of players and other members of the esports community. Ironclad includes interviews with KingJae, David Beckham’s co-owner Guild Esports and Dundee & Angus College. It also features EXCEL Esports and Esports Youth Club.
Ironclad producer Sam Cooke co-founded Esports Insider, and the WFH League. He stated that “digital and tech inequalities in esports are serious issues which actually discriminate versus large swathes and limit access at an entry level.
Ironclad was created to allow Ironclad members to share their lives and stories to raise awareness about these important issues and hopefully act as a catalyst to change. Interviewees agreed that there is more to be done and that brick-and-mortar gaming facilities are just one piece of the puzzle.
Lee Willows is the founder of ESG Gamingadded. “Raising awareness about digital and tech inequalities, player protection, and inclusion are key themes for ESG Gaming. I am incredibly grateful for Invest in Film and Lionscreed, who brought together the community to share their knowledge and unique insights in our documentary-style film. Ironclad is the first in a series of short films by ESG that will aim to increase awareness and improve accessibility and inclusion.
“I also want to thank Clarion Gaming for having the vision to create the Esports Arena, but also for supporting our efforts at ESG Gaming and providing us with an amazing event to launch Ironclad.
The next screening of Ironclad will take place at ESI Next Gen. This event focuses on unifying leaders across education and video games at the University of Warwick between 22nd and 23 March.
