With the support of Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Skillhub Online Games Federation is working to bring for the first-time the prestigious International Esports Championships in India. This will mark a significant milestone for India’s growing esports sector. SOGF and the International Esports Federation are working together to create world-class tournaments in India. This is a strategic step to help India become a leader of online competitive gaming.
In a crucial meeting held last week, Boban totovski and representatives of the SOGF and IESF met with Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports of India, in order to discuss the milestone partnership aimed towards shaping the future of India’s esports eco-system.
The Hon’ble Sport Minister, during the meeting, expressed his strong support for SOGF’s and IESF’s initiative to introduce top-notch esports programs in India. He stressed the importance of developing the ecosystem, and giving Indian athletes international opportunities. The Minister also endorsed SOGF’s efforts to regulate esports, skill-based gaming and the ecosystem. This reinforced the government’s commitment to creating a fair and competitive industry.
Shankar Aggarwal said: “We are very grateful to the government and IESF, for turning around things in such a quick time. India has a huge potential for esports, and this partnership can transform the landscape of esports in the country. It will not only broaden the reach and popularity of esports, but also pave way for international competitions at the highest level to be held in India. We aim to create a thriving and fair ecosystem with the help of international organizations like IESF and the government. “Our commitment is to nurture the talent of Indian athletes, regulate the industry and make sure they have the best chance to excel on the international stage.”
SOGF is made up of Olympians, ex-high-ranking officials, including former CJIs and SC Judges and civil servants. Its 29 associated state bodies also reflect the nationwide support for these initiatives. It is committed to fostering fair competition, transparency and nurturing talent that will represent India internationally.
To promote online games, including esports, and to change the perception of gaming and esports in India, SOG Federation also joined forces with the International Mind Sports Association, an umbrella organization for global governing body’s mind and skill-based sport, and the Global Esports Federation.
Boban Totovski said that “Supporting Esports Communities around the World has always been a key mission of IESF.” We are happy to see SOGF share the same values, and that they’re committed to working towards the same vision for India. “We are excited to see our new pro series, which we’re organising, kick off in India. We believe SOGF will be a great partner while unlocking opportunities and development for athletes, esports fans and SOGF.”
The partnership between SOGF, IESF and the Government of India is a step in the right direction, particularly with the Olympic Esports Games in the mix. This collaboration is in line with India’s increasing focus on international Esports, and the opportunities that await its athletes.
