Casino Guru is pleased to announce that two renowned industry professionals, Duncan Garvie, and Monica Shafaq will be joining the panel of judges at the upcoming Casino Guru Awards in 2025.
Casino Guru Awards, now in its third edition, honor excellence, transparency and social responsibility within the iGaming sector. Duncan and Monica have joined the judging panel to continue the commitment to fairness, integrity and transparency.
Meet the New Judges
Duncan Garvie, Founder of BetBlocker
Duncan Garvie is a long-time advocate of consumer protection within the gambling industry. Duncan Garvie, founder of ThePOGG – the first affiliate complaint service to be approved as an Alternative Dispute Resolution provider (ADR), has pioneered initiatives that improve player safety and fairly resolve disputes. He founded BetBlocker in 2017, a charity that offers free tools to individuals who want to manage their gambling. He continues to promote responsible gambling today as the Chair of BetBlocker’s Board of Trustees.
Duncan expressed his excitement for the role by saying:
“I am thrilled to be a judge at the Casino Guru Awards for 2025. Since years, Casino Guru’s player protection initiatives have set the standard for the affiliate industry. They have improved the dialogue in several key areas of safer gambling. It is a great honour to be invited to participate in the judging.
Monica Shafaq, CEO of Gordon Moody
Monica Shafaq has a wealth experience in the charity sector with a particular focus on gambling addiction and mental health. Monica Shafaq has been CEO of Gordon Moody since January 2024. Gordon Moody is an international charity that addresses gambling addiction. Monica was previously CEO of Kaleidoscope Group. She led her organisation to numerous accolades including being included in The Sunday Times’ Top 100 Companies to work for.
Monica’s charity work is not the only thing she does. She also plays a leading role in promoting social justice, equality and diversity through her non-executive positions in football and in public health. Her dedication has earned Monica recognition as one Europe’s 50 most influential Muslims.
Monica’s excitement was expressed in the following words:

This is an excellent opportunity to recognize individuals and organizations that are driving positive change in the gambling industry and promoting responsible practice. Casino Guru Awards 2025
Casino Guru Awards continues to set standards for the iGaming Industry by recognizing achievements in categories such as fairness and responsible gambling. The event this year introduces two brand new categories:
- Players’ Choice: Allows players to choose their favorite gaming provider.
- iGaming changemaker of the year: Honoring individuals whose projects and leadership have had a significant impact on the online gambling industry.
The live awards ceremony will take place on 6 June 2025 at the Hilton Hotel, St. Julian’s in Malta. This invitation-only gala promises a memorable evening of celebration, recognition and networking.
Nominations for the Casino Guru Awards 2020 are accepted until February 28, 2019. The shortlisted nominees will then be announced in early March. Public voting for selected categories will open shortly after.
