Michael Fitzsimons has been appointed as the Chief Wagering officer of Tabcorp Holdings Limited.
Mr Fitzsimons is responsible for all functions related to core betting, including digital, retailing, tote trading, product, and marketing. This position is part the newly formed Executive Leadership Team, announced by the company in December of last year. All betting functions will be under the same executive in this simplified structure.
Mr Fitzsimons is a global sports betting expert with over 20 years’ experience in the EU, US and Asia. He is the Executive Director of Wagering for Hong Kong Jockey Club. In this role, he oversees strategy, trading and marketing, as well as data and product developments.
He is responsible for the risk management of China Sports Lottery, which has 120,000 betting outlets. Before joining the HKJC Mr Fitzsimons served as Director of International Trading and Operations for The Stars Group. He launched the PokerStars Sportsbook during this period and relaunched SkyBet Germany and Italy. Mr Fitzsimons serves on the executive board of the World Tote Association.
Gillon McLachlan is the Managing Director of Tabcorp and Chief Executive Officer elect. He said, “Michael Fitzsimons brings to Tabcorp extensive global experience in sports betting.” He is well-versed in international sports betting, tote and trading. Michael is rare – he is a specialist in both digital and retail betting and one of only a few people who can combine the two to grow a gambling product.
The Chief Wagering officer is a major upgrade in our wagering capabilities within the executive team. The vertical structure is simpler and brings all the levers to grow wagering under one executive, ensuring first-class execution.
Fitzsimons will begin in the first quarter of 2025. His appointment will be subject to regulatory and probity approvals.
