Arctic7, a game development company, has announced today the acquisitions of Star Fort Games and Narwhal Studios. These two acquisitions are a significant step forward in Arctic7’s capabilities. They bring together a wealth of experience from some the most prominent creatives in the virtual production and video game development space.
Arctic7’s acquisition of LA-based Narwhal Studios marks their first expansion into virtual production. This will allow them to deliver immersive entertainment and experiences that are unparalleled. Their acquisition expands Arctic7 beyond video games, as Narwhal Studios is a specialist in film and TV virtual production. Arctic7 will also be expanding its videogame development foundations through the acquisition of Ottawa-based Star Fort Games. This will help to cement Arctic7’s expertise in the game industry and expand their studio capabilities to Canada.
Arctic7 continues where they left off in 2022, with studios in Austin, Montenegro, Los Angeles, and Ottawa. More than 100 people work together in the company to create extraordinary entertainment that is both heartfelt and deep.
Narwhal Studios, a media production company, is at the forefront in virtual production. They are also continuing to innovate in this space. The team’s experience and skills have been applied to some of the most important films and shows in the world, including Ant-Man, The Mandalorian and The Wasp: Quantumania, and Black Adam. Arctic7’s acquisition of Narwhal Studios has not only increased its influence in game development but also extended its reach into other industries. This acquisition comes after Arctic7’s recent appointment of Felix Jorge, Narwhal founder, as Chief Communications Officer.
Felix Jorge, co-founder of Narwhal Studios, comments: “By joining hands with Arctic7 we plan to bring ICVFX and the virtual art department to a greater audience than ever before. We are supercharging our techniques and processes, and creating the training programs, virtual production tools, necessary to launch the next generation in film, TV and game productions.
Star Fort Games will be welcomed to the Arctic7 family by the Austin-based company. This will allow them to use the independent game studio’s work across multiple platforms from blockbuster console games to global mobile titles. They are experts in creating engaging and entertaining games because of their knowledge about what makes a game enjoyable, what games can do for consumers and what trends will be hot.
Star Fort Games Studio Head Lindsay Daggit comments: “We are delighted to be joining Arctic7 studios and so excited about this next chapter in Star Fort Games. The new opportunities this partnership will offer our employees and the entire studio is exciting to me. Our strengths will be combined with those of the Arctic7 studios to help us reach new heights.
Igor Efremov, CEO and co-founder at Arctic7 comments: “Our goal at Arctic7 is create incredible entertainment experiences for our partner. We can further enhance our ability to achieve that goal with the acquisitions of Star Fort games and Narwhal Studios. We are excited to have Narwhal’s expertise in virtual production, which allows us to work with some of the most important intellectual property in the world. This is especially significant considering the expanding cross-media opportunities in gaming. Star Fort’s ability to create games across platforms and games as a service adds exciting capabilities for us.
