For the first time in 2019, the German Computer Game Awards was presented live to an audience. The German Computer Game Awards were presented live for the first time since 2019.
As well as the attendees, hundreds of thousands more viewers watched the event live. The total prize money awarded was 800,000. Matthias Linda’s ‘Chained Echoes,’ a game from Deck13 Spotlight and Matthias Linda was named the Best German Game. Paintbucket Games of Berlin won the award for Studio of the year. The studio was founded in 2018 and has made its mark in just a few short years with engaging games that explore socially relevant themes.
For example, ‘Through the Darkest of Times and Beholder 3’ won the award for Best Serious Games this year. Santa Monica Studio’s and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s ‘God of War Ragnarok,’ won the award for Best International Game in the non-endowed category. Pia Scholz aka Shurjoka was chosen by the jury and community as the Player of the year. She discusses a wide range of issues with her fans via live stream – from diversity, right-wing extremism and sexism, to mental health and career as an influencer. The German Computer Game Awards are presented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, in conjunction with the German Games Industry Association.
Congratulations to all the winners of the German Computer Game Awards. We were finally able to give these awards in front of a large crowd once again. The creative minds behind these games deserve a large audience this year, as the nominated titles were all developed under difficult circumstances due to the coronavirus epidemic. This period has produced outstanding games which have received a lot of attention in Germany as well as abroad.
